Cookies and similar storage
Cookies are small values a website can ask your browser to store and return with later requests. Browser storage, such as localStorage, can also retain information between visits. These technologies are distinct from the temporary values held in memory while a page is open.
The editorial pages and supplied script do not set cookies, write to localStorage or sessionStorage, or include analytics and advertising tools. They do not use tracking pixels or embed third-party media. Core navigation and essays are available without optional tracking.
What the local tools do
| Function | Where information exists | Persistence |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile navigation | Current page memory | Ends when the page is closed or reloaded |
| Scroll reveals | Current page display state | No stored viewing history |
| Note preview | Current page memory | No saved draft |
| Copy note | Your device clipboard, after your action | Controlled by the device and clipboard settings |
| Download note | A plain-text file on your device | Remains until you remove it |
Browser features such as form restoration, history, caching, synchronisation and downloads may retain information independently of the site’s script. Review your browser and device settings if you use a shared computer or need to remove local copies.
Hosting and separately supplied services
A hosting platform, security layer or separately supplied consent interface may have its own necessary cookies or preference storage. Such behaviour is outside the editorial script described above and should be disclosed by the deployed service. Any optional tracking introduced later must be described and, where required, kept inactive until valid consent is given.
Reading a public page should not require agreement to advertising or analytics. Where a consent interface is present, use its settings to review or withdraw optional choices. The supplied editorial code does not depend on such a choice to function.
External references
Reference links take you to independent websites only when you choose to follow them. Those sites may use their own cookies and tracking technologies. Consult their notices and controls; our description of this site does not describe their practices.
Your controls and contact
You can inspect, block or delete cookies and site storage through your browser settings. Clearing downloaded files and clipboard contents may require separate actions. Blocking storage may affect features provided by other websites or by hosting services, but the supplied essays and local composer do not require persistent browser storage.
